It's a Big Place - So It's a Big Job!
But, ... the good news is: there is a tangible sense of satisfaction in seeing the outcome of your effort!
The job of the Property Committee is pretty simple - it is to maintain and renew the property and physical facilities of the congregation. That includes responsibility to
- arrange with the caretaker the purchase of all necessary building and cleaning supplies;
- maintain an inventory of all furniture, fixtures and equipment;
- maintain security of the church building, including any security systems;
- recommend to the Council/Expanded Council and schedule major building improvements (decorating, roof repairs, etc.);
- establish a long term program for updating and improvement of premises (this is in place with our 3 phase capital campaign for building renewal - we are about 1/2 way through);
- be responsible for risk management and maintenance of adequate insurance coverage;
- be responsible for purchase of furnishings and equipment;
- formulate and administer a policy on booking and use of church facilities, in cooperation with staff, including the allocation of rooms for various functions. (The Worship Committee is responsible for formulating and administering policies for the use of the sanctuary);
- maintain lease arrangements with tenants;
- ensure coordination between the office and the caretaker regarding bookings, caretaking requirements, set-ups required, etc.;
- supervise consult with and provide feedback for the work of the caretaker, in cooperation with the Ministry and Personnel Committee;
Some of the work involves research, planning, pricing, and decision making.
Some of the work involves skilled labour by engineers and trades-people.
Some of the work involves the work of as many helping hands as possible.
VOLUNTEERS OF ALL THESE KINDS ARE NEEDED FOR OCCASIONAL AND INTERMITTENT ACTIVITY.
