SO MANY OPPORTUNITIES!

Choir memberThere are many opportunities to enjoy and grow through participation in worship support and leadership. Get out front or get behind the scenes. There is a place for all.

SENIOR CHOIR

A gathering of adults who share one thing in common - they like to sing in church!

  • Some can sight read music. Others cannot. That's ok.
  • Some have the capacity to sing solos. Others prefer to provide support. That's great!.
  • Some are present every week. Others attend as they are able, perhaps for a seasonal speciality. Brilliant!
  • Rehearsals take place in the Sanctuary on Thursday evenings (7:30-9:00 pm) from September through May.
  • Worship warm-ups occur Sunday mornings (beginning 30 minutes before the service).

YOUTH CHOIR

Worship bandThe Fort Garry Youth Choir is formed of those young people who are keen to sing.  Some years, the participants are Junior and Senior High students.

Other years the participants may be elementary school age.  The Youth choir begins rehearsals at the end of September. Young singers attend Sunday morning practices from 9:45 to 10:15 a.m.

These young people sing in occasional worship services through the year, and especially around Christmas and Easter. They have the opportunity to play tone chimes and join in appropriate anthem ensembles with the Sr. Choir. All children are invited to meet with Pat Johnson, the Youth Choir director, to join in the fun of making music together.

INSTRUMENTAL ENSEMBLES

band practiceThe only instrument that has not been played in Fort Garry United Church may be the outback digeridoo.  Or the Swiss alpen horn.  That's a way of saying we cherish the invitation to make a joyful noise to the Lord!

There have been bagpipes, blues guitars, bongos and brass quintets;  there have been steel drums, string quartets and singing-bowls; there have been harps and harmonicas; bells and bodhrans, djembes and glockenspiels, oboes, flutes, violins, accordians, and rock bands; there have been children playing their first grade piano etudes and virtuosi eliciting tears through their philharmonic cello.

What do you play? What would you like to hear?  Every gift for God is welcome.  Explore the possibilities with This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , the music director at FGUC.

DRAMA AND DANCE

Actors"From that time on, Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and undergo great suffering at the hands of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised."  Note that the scripture doesn't say Jesus began to "tell them," or "teach them." Show them.

Incarnation - it's a significant word in the church.   It means - "in the flesh."

Jesus is The Incarnation. The Word-made-Flesh. As a child once put it, "God, with skin on."  Perfect!

The Christian faith is not just words. It is about the continuing en-fleshment of The Word, the life and teachings of Jesus, the spirit of Peace, the love of God, in Jesus followers.

What better way to communicate the Good News, than by enacting it!  Than be dancing it!  Worship at Fort Garry UC is enriched by the involvement of staff and congregants in dramatic presentation, from simple skits and the hokey-pokey, embodiment of scripture (e.g. Lazarus Remembers) and liturgical dance, to full fledged dinner theater productions (e.g. The Mouse Trap), and Royal Winnipeg Ballet School productions (e.g. A Day for Dancing).  Open to "tread the boards"?  Let us know at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. DÉCORE

font rosesIt's not just arranging flowers, although, flowers are one of God's more amazing gifts.

It's also seasonal inspiration - for Thanksgiving, Advent and Christmas, Lent, Palm Sunday, Good Friday, and Easter.

It's also sacramental layering - adding in form and substance the peace, hope and joy of Baptism, confirmation, and Communion.

It's also artistic expression- to provoke and promote in us a life that is beautiful and beaty-making - not in the sense of surface glamour, but through the integration of inner spirit and outer being.
