Sunday Worship Services - 10:30 a.m.

Center AisleWe gather Sunday mornings to celebrate God's presence and to learn of God's purpose for us, and the world. The encounter with God brings hope and challenge, renewal, courage and strength.

We meet the Holy One as we make God's word our home, savoring the church's book, the Bible;

  • through the sacraments of Baptism and the Lord's Supper that unite us with Jesus Christ;
  • through the gifts of sacred music that joins our spirits to the Divine, in traditional hymns and contemporary songs, in the offering of praise by several choirs, and instruments from organ and grand piano, concert orchestra, ensembles, drum groups, and praise bands;
  • through the quiet intimacy of prayer and meditation;
  • through the gifts of creative arts – in fabric and film, photography and poetry, in drama and dance,
  • through shared commitment and action to mend the world,
  • and through the joyful fellowship of Christians with one another.

Experience is not required!

  We always enjoy visitors and welcome newcomers.

    Come in comfortable clothing; there is no "dress code."

      Inclusive language is naturally encouraged.

Styles

Palm ParadeThe audience  of worship is One: "The great 'I Am'."  The participants  in worship are Many: all of us who gather!

As "The Laity" - the whole people of God - staff and congregation together strive to honour The Ancient of Days with all of our gifts and with a wide variety of styles that enable full expression of our hearts:  adoration, confession, lament, thanksgiving, intercession and supplication.

We seek to give our whole being to show the "worth-ship" of The Divine - and so, our services are eclectic, and sometimes, even EPIC! - including prayer candles, Taizé chanting, Oscar-style paparazzi, steel drums, Hollywood movie-clips, foot-washing, silence, beach-balls, clown noses, string quartets, testimony,  ... everything - for "the whole Earth is the Lord's!"

Come as you are but bring your best - your heart, your head, your hands, your voice, your time!

Technology

Media DeskWe seek to use all our capacity to understand and honour all God's goodness for all of the earth's creatures.  Each week, a number of people share their creative talents to ensure technology supports our learning and enhances our worship, without the congregation being distracted by the equipment or processes.

Our sanctuary is equipped with a 16 channel sound board, dedicated/networked computer workstation, projection and amplification equipment, and video monitoring capability for the choir.

Our media desk volunteers have the capacity to show film in VHS and DVD format, play various forms of recorded music (CD's, mp3, *.wma files) and to record the services offered at FGUC.

Music

Senior ChoirMusic is an integral and exciting part of life at Fort Garry United Church.

The Senior Choir consists of 30+ members, including soloists and a variety of instrumental ensembles. The Sr. Choir performs an anthem and/or a solo every Sunday and support congregation in hymn singing.

On any given day you could hear brass, guitars, djembe drums, flutes, cello, saxophone, or string quartet in worship.

worship bandComposers from Bach, Mozart and Brahms through Britten and Rutter, to praise and worship songs are all cherished.

Over the years the choir has performed many of the major works such as the Faure's Requiem, Rutter's Requiem, Vivaldi’s Gloria and Handel's Messiah.

The choir has also explored more innovative ways to present the Good News.

For example, this last Good Friday, Broadway selections from

  • Les Miserables,
  • Man of La Mancha,
  • Jesus Christ Superstar, and
  • Hunchback of Notre Dame

were used to highlight the continuing Kin_dom voices of those who follow Jesus in the Way of the Cross.

String Quartet

The choir also presents occasional concerts and coffee house programs that celebrate music from Broadway shows, light operettas, folk music and the movies.

Children and Youth form choirs from time to time to join in the rhythm and Spirit.
