RUSTIC REJOICING: WORSHIP AND POT-LUCK BRUNCH

Christmas Day rarely falls on a Sunday. This year, it does.

The Christmas Eve services are done. Pageant costumes are put away. The brass instruments are safely stored. And like the nativity itself, the wondrous day itself arrives quietly, almost un-remarked amid the parcels and playtime and comings and goings.

So, this Sunday - December 25, 2011, we will worship differently.  All who can pull away from the tree and trappings, are invited to celebrate the birth of Jesus - our "Emmanuel" (God among us) - in informal, but happy fellowship.  We gather, at 10:30 a.m., in our Upper Hall for a Rustic Pot-luck Brunch together - which means we bring items to share and eat that require neither cooking nor refrigeration. Come casually dressed.  Children may bring quiet toys with which to play.  We'll visit, and sing, and baptize at least one infant who has been presented to us this year.  Join us. You are invited!

RUSTIC BRUNCH FOODS

The purpose of a RUSTIC MEAL is to have foods that require a minimum of preparation, and a maximum of enjoyment.  Think of an easy, but delicious, picnic.  Foods will be placed on a table from which any may receive … a symbol of the grace of Christmas Day.

The list of foods below will give you some ideas of what to bring (or prompt you to other great ideas!)  As food will be coming directly from home to table in the church, some foods that require refrigeration for storage will be acceptable.

  • fresh breads, buns ...
  • sweet or sticky buns ...
  • cereals, (granola especially), milk ...
  • cheeses ...
  • smoked meat ...
  • hard boiled eggs*
  • olives, pickles, pickled onions, …
  • spreads: butter, jam, honey,
  • peanut butter, marmalade ...
  • vegetables: tomatoes, celery, snap peas,...
  • fruits: orange, banana, strawberries,
  • blackberries, pineapple, grapefruit, …
  • dessert squares / cake, ...

Let us rejoice Christmas Day at the usual worship time – for food, friendship, thanksgiving, Christmas singing, and baptism!

HAIL THEE FESTIVAL DAY!
